Teacher of English conversation, Brazil - Assumption Volunteer Programme
Submitted: 04/05/12 ; Closing Date: OpenIn Rio de Janeiro in Brazil shanty towns or favelas cling to steep hillsides in view of tourist hotels. The Assumption Sisters have a project, the Living and Learning Centre, that aims to keep the children from the favela in school and give them an alternative to drug gangs and an early death. The project runs homework classes, arts and English conversational classes and seeks people who can teach English to extremely lively children and help in various other ways. Volunteers need to learn some Portuguese and it helps to be interested in football!
Our partner is Volunteer-in-Brazil - they place for up to 3 months and we place volunteers for one year.
Assumption Volunteer Programme (ALVP)
ALVP offers people the opportunity and challenge of sharing for one year in the lives of the poor, the young and the marginalized overseas or in the UK, in projects connected with the Assumption Sisters.
