Creative arts with kids, Newcastle - Assumption Volunteer Programme
Submitted: 08/12/11 ; Closing Date: OpenWe seek 3 volunteers per year to help with community development through creative arts with kids in after-school activites in a part of Newcastle that suffers with unemployment and social problems. The project has grown over the years to offer street sessions and work in local schools as well as in the centre. Skills in pottery, art, music, woodwork, cookery etc can be learned and shared.
Though the project is not overtly Christian, volunteers share a 3-bedroom maisonette close to the project and build a supportive Christian community as they seek to show Gospel values through service.
Volunteers begin together in September and end in July.
Assumption Volunteer Programme (ALVP)
ALVP offers people the opportunity and challenge of sharing for one year in the lives of the poor, the young and the marginalized overseas or in the UK, in projects connected with the Assumption Sisters.
